Wiesbaden decides to become a member of the KulturRegion

We are very pleased that the Wiesbaden city council decided on July 14, 2022 to join the KulturRegion FrankfurtRheinMain on January 1, 2023. As soon as membership is officially confirmed by the board of shareholders of the KulturRegion in December 2022, a gap on the map of the intermunicipal cultural network, which will then have 54 members, will close.

“The diverse cultural offerings of the state capital Wiesbaden are made known throughout the metropolitan region through the KulturRegion’s programs and projects. At the same time, the range of offerings of the KulturRegion is enriched by the cultural treasures and activities in Wiesbaden,” says Gert-Uwe Mende, Mayor of the state capital Wiesbaden, about the decision to join. The head of the Wiesbaden cultural department, Axel Imholz, is certain: “The KulturRegion makes a significant contribution to strengthening the regional cultural profile of the Rhine-Main region. The Wiesbaden cultural landscape will benefit from the existing know-how in the network and advance it with their contributions.“

“Wiesbaden’s participation in the cultural region is for mutual benefit and well-being. Our most important projects such as the 'Route of Industrial Culture Rhine-Main' - in the creation of which Wiesbaden was involved from the beginning until 2006 - can only be mapped in their entirety with the state capital. Likewise, Wiesbaden's rich garden culture closes a gap in the popular park guide 'Ins Grüne', in the program booklet of 'GartenRheinMain' and also with contributions from the diverse exhibition landscape in the museum booklet 'Museums & Special Exhibitions',” comments Thomas Will, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the KulturRegion and District Administrator of the Groß-Gerau district made this important decision.

“For us, Wiesbaden is the most important link north of the Rhine between the Rheingau-Taunus district and the Main-Taunus district,” adds Sabine von Bebenburg, managing director of the KulturRegion, happily. “Accession fulfills a long-held wish that has been expressed loudly for many years that the entire metropolitan region works together more closely in the area of ​​culture.“

Under the motto “Culture in the region – culture for the region”, the KulturRegion has been pursuing the sustainable networking, bundling and marketing of culture in the FrankfurtRhineMain metropolitan region since 2005 across federal states. The non-profit organization advises local and regional cultural workers and promotes inter-communal cooperation through specific projects such as the “Rhine-Main Industrial Culture Route”, the “Strong Pieces” international children’s and youth theater festival Projects “GartenRheinMain” and “Spirit of Freedom – Freedom of the Spirit” as well as the annual program “Museums & Special Exhibitions”. The non-profit GmbH dedicates its project work to the cross-sectional topic of cultural education.
